Scholarships

One of the main purposes of the Spectrum/Mt. View Alumni Association is to assist the school and its students by granting scholarships and bursaries and supporting academic, fine arts, athletic, and vocational activities.

We provide four $750 scholarships each school year to deserving Spectrum graduating students – Academics, Athletics, Technology & Trades and The Brian Whitmore Arts Memorial Scholarship.

ACADEMICS

Gracelin Gale
We are honoured to recognize Gracelin as the winner of our  Academics Award. Although she is an amazing tutor, an environmentalist, an athlete, and a scholar, she stands heads and
shoulders above others in her determination and her perseverance. Her grit will take her to extraordinary heights.
Gracelin is headed to post-secondary to pursue a career in Accounting.

ATHLETICS

Tyler Felt
We are honoured to award Tyler with our Athletics Award. On the court or in the classroom, Tyler is always at the top of his game. He is always managing and balancing his top academic status and the rigours of his athletic achievements.
Tyler is headed to the University of Victoria’s Faculty of Health with a future in Sport Medicine.

TECHNOLOGY & TRADES

Teagan Mitchell
Fusing the best of advanced Technology and Trades, this multi-talented individual has achieved top marks in Automotive Technology, Electrical Trades, Metal Work and Woodwork as well as
senior English, Math and Science. To top off his resume, he helped transition a Robotics Club into a credited course.
Teagan has been accepted into the University of Victoria’s Engineering and Computer Science Faculty.

BRIAN WHITMORE ARTS MEMORIAL

Cassandra Delay

Although Cassandra is headed to the University of Victoria’s Science Department to study Microbiology and Chemistry to achieve her goal of becoming a veterinary cardiac surgeon, she is an accomplished jazz and concert band soloist, an actor, and a singer.
As a winner of the Brian Whitmore Fine Arts Award, we wish Cassandra much success in her future as she goes forth with so much talent.

 

ACADEMICS

Nehali Gham
Nehali has achieved exemplary academic status in addition to her impressive leadership and generous humanitarian efforts. She will be attending the UBC to study Psychology.

ATHLETICS

Cadel Jenkins
In addition to being an all-round athlete, star basketball player, and a top academic, Cadel finds time to mentor in our local elementary schools. He will be attending the Science Faculty at UVic.

TECHNOLOGY & TRADES

Lucas Adams
Lucas's incredible work ethic has won him 1st and 2nd Skills Canada awards and he is an integral part of the Spectrum Thunder basketball team. He is heading to Camosun College to become a Red Seal Plumber.

Violet Hayward
Violet’s artistic talents, perseverance, and community commitments make her a worthy candidate for this award.
She is heading to the Blanche Macdonald Centre in Vancouver.

ACADEMICS

Julia Kuromi has left her mark in many areas of Spectrum.  She is one of our top academic students, a member of several sports teams and has been a prominent member of school leadership and vice president of Student Council.  Through these roles Julia is leaving spectrum a better place than when she entered, and as she starts at SFU in the fall to pursue Sustainable Energy Engineering, I am confident she will have an equal or greater impact there.

THE BRIAN WHITMORE ARTS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Autumn Curtis is an extremely talented artist who excels in drawing and painting; she is never short of creative ideas and her final pieces are incredible.  She plans to focus on the fine arts in post-secondary. She is very deserving of this award and I look forward to hearing about her artistic accomplishments in the future. 

ATHLETICS

Megan Duraan has demonstrated tremendous growth and success as a dancer, since joining in grade 9.  In grade 10 she was accepted into our advanced dance program and has committed many hours to rehearsals and performances. She is professional, cooperative, and creative in her work, due to these qualities, Megan will be hugely successful in her future career as a nurse.  

TRADES and TECHNOLOGY

Alrayan Adlan came to Canada when she was 13 not knowing any English.  Through her hard work and determination, she is now fluent in English, and earned 87% in English 12, an accomplishment she is immensely proud of.  She is planning on becoming a dental assistant so she can help people through moments of fear and worry in their lives.
